Cross Country

Cross-country December Belleek

The annual Mayo VEC cross country event took place in December in Belleek. A turn out of up to 90 students

representing six schools braved the icy conditions to participate. Moyne College was represented by fifteen athlethes.

In the 1st year boys race there was 25 competitors with our own Dale Hopkins finishing a very respectable 7th with our other 1st year boys finishing in a very respectable time.

Quite a number of 2nd years took part in the event but unfortunately they failed to preform on the day but however all managed to finish the race. The highlight of the event was the senior boys race over a distance of 2000 meters.

The field was very competitive with a large number of boys taking part. Moyne College had 2 competitiors in the race Martin Ginty and Andrew Conway.

From the beginning of the race Andrew led from the front and did so through out the race. Although coming under a lot of pressure from the other competitors Andrew proved too strong and finished the race strongly in 1st place.
