Home School Liason

HOME SCHOOL COMMUNITY LIAISON SCHEME (H.S.C.L.)

The purpose of the scheme is to recognise the important role parents and the wider community have in the education of their child and to support them in that role. The aim is to have every student complete the senior cycle and to increase the number of students who are going to third level.

The H.S.C.L. co-ordinator tries to establish positive links between home and school and improved communication. This is done by visiting the homes of the students and meeting with their parents.

The H.S.C.L. scheme is integrated at Primary and Post primary level. In Ballina there are a number of H.S.C.L. co-ordinators, one in the town primary schools and one in each of the post primary schools.

These co-ordinators work to-gether in conjunction with members of the wider community on a local committee. It looks at issues in the wider community that impinge on learning and have organised talks for the local Community on these issues.
