Students from first and second year recently took part in a local rugby blitz organised in Ballina Rugby club. The boys had a number of weeks training under their belt and performed very well on the day. The team played two games against Lacken Cross and Enniscrone respectively.
The first game was a very tight affair and after a very tight finish the boys were unlucky to lose 15-12. In the second match the team put in a huge effort to emerge victorious on a score line of 22-15. All in all the boys performed remarkably well and it is hoped the sport will grow next year with the introduction of new members.
Rugby Blitz, Ballina Rugby Club
Moyne College took part in their 1st rugby blitz in Heffernan Park Ballina. A total of six schools took part. Although most of the Moyne College team had never played rugby before they equipped themselves well on the day. Whatever was lacking in skill was made up with enthusiasm.
Our first game ended in a draw against Summerhill College, Sligo a school with a strong rugby tradition. In our second game the boys upped their performance and had a big win over Enniscrone.
Our last game saw us come up against a fancied Easkey side. The game was tough and uncompremising with both teams going for the win unfortunately we lost by the narrowest of margins 1 point. Overall the team preformed above all expectations and enjoyed the day greatly.
